I own a Denver based music company that needs help redesigning a purely mechanical device for guitarists (prototype in existence) which is to be manufactured in the United States or China and is to be marketed in the United States. The goals for the redesign are to vastly improve its functionality and aesthetic quality and to reduce manufacturing costs.
As aesthetics are very important in musical instrument/accessories sales, experience with aesthetically driven design is valued. Also, an interest in rock music and its surrounding culture is of value (i.e. given the culture of the market, the device perform far better if it looks more like a motorcycle than like a stethoscope). Leo Fender was a master of design, in this respect. His products were functional, cheap to produce with the materials available at the time, and iconically original in aesthetics. We hope to capture this spirit with the device.
Compensation will be based on many factors (many to decided by the candidate in agreement with our project manager) and is best discussed on a case by case basis with each candidate.

Purpose of the project:
I need an alarm to protect metal covers (which are rarely opened) they open downward or outward depending on the cabinet)
Our problem is theft of components inside the cabinets and a need to set off an alarm if the cover is opened. We do not want to use reed (magnetic) switches because the cabinets are rarely opened and there is considerable vibration and heat as well as exposure to the elements. Reed switches would require too many more parts for the alarm circuits and increase cost as well as could be damaged by heat, vibration, and water intrusion.
Needs of the alarm:
(1) Description of operation:
The alarm needs to be a normally closed circuit, which would alarm if the wire were cut. A wire loop made of insulated wire, would be intertwined with the vents in the covers.
Should this be cut, the alarm would sound until the battery went dead. I don

We have some drawings that we wants to convert from paper 2d drawings to both one 3D .part and one 2d Catdrawing. The catpart (3D) will be used in a setup later on.
So one 2d drawing should be converted to a new 3D .catdrawing and one .catpart.

This is a relatively easy student-level project. It involves using National Instruments Vision Software and LABVIEW software to perform image processing and matching. There will be a database of images, and a camera to take real-time images. The pictures clicked need to be compared against the images in the database, and if they match, then a control system loop needs to set a flag. It should not be too difficult, only problem is I do not know the software, and do not have enough time to learn it. More details will be provided if you are interested.

I am a professional gamer who competes on the Xbox 360. Me and my team attend tournaments all over the world for thousands of dollars in prizes.
The project Ive been working on is developing a competitive gaming controller designed for the Xbox 360. Ive done a lot of initial research but have hit a few snags which I was hoping you could help on, then was also looking to have the prototype manufactured and set to a point where I can mass-manufacture it.

Switches (For Face Buttons, Possibly Triggers)
I looked into it, these are what is used in competition grade keyboards at the moment and they seem like they would serve the purpose for a controller as well. Unsure as to whether putting these into a controller, which is much smaller than a keyboard, is feasible though.

Triggers
I want to have a setup for the triggers where they can be removed and replaced, similar to the triggers on a paintball gun. Ideally this would be able to make an effect of having a hairtrigger (where just a tiny amount of force is enough to hit the switch, firing the gun in game) or to allow for a longer trigger pull if that is what the player prefers. If this isnt possible/feasible then the trigger needs to default be set up as a hair-trigger. In the current Xbox 360 controller a potentiometer is used which goes from 0 to 100, at which point the gun fires. Ideally Id like to replace this with a switch, so that the response time is much quicker.
Joystick
Here is the part which has been used in every controller since the Sony Playstation:

The cap on top has changed, but the joystick part has remained the same. It is just 2 potentiometers which send directions back to the console. This is where Ive had a lot of issues as to how the part can be improved while keeping costs down. The stick isnt bad at all but it doesnt move as smoothly as it needs to for competitive play, and there is a large "Dead Zone" in the center of the controller before the controller sends readings, making it hard to make finesse adjustments.
Plastic/Form Factor
Im not sure how to go about this part of the process, and research didnt turn up much. Id like it to closely resemble the form factor of the current Xbox 360 controller.

Im admittedly new to all this and while I have a ton of knowledge on the end product and its use competitively, I really dont know much about the manufacturing/engineering aspects of it all. Ive researched it enough so that Im not a complete idiot on the subject, but I need to know more and connect with people who can help make my vision a reality.

Two dependent variables: risk# and return#. These could possibly be expressed as a single variable like this: try# = return# / risk#. I want to maximize return# value and minimize risk# value.
These 2 values can be passed to your routine on each iteration. Your routine will offer a new array of suggested values each in the range 0 to 1, one weight for each array element. Alternatively it may be necessary to call your routine once for each element in the array so as to evaluate each change at the global level.

I need some code to compute the gas flow in a four stroke engine.
I will be building this code into a project that I am doing in VB.net so I have to be able to use it in VB somehow.
I will be using the results to aid in selection of camshaft events.
Software that does similar computation are Dynomation, Engine Analyser.
This project is suitable for someone that has already done work in this subject maybe as a thesis.

We need a very specific image processing algorithm developed and coupled with a easy to use UI. The app designed is fairly straight forward and simple which requires scrambling of images in a randomized manner developing an algorithm used to compare 2 pixels and then output a new pixel based on the results of the comparison, this comparison will be done to every pixel in the image.
In addition, the app should instead of also using one pixel at a time should also be able to use larger pixel area of 90 pixels by 90 pixel area as well as for a 60 pixel by 60 pixel areas to distinguish the scrambled images in terms of difficulty. If the single pixel can be done than looping for larger areas should be easier. Also the app should have a feature to also be able to detect and scramble images by edge detection. Since software used is Matlab which has this feature, developing an algorithm to integrate the edge scramble option or the pixel scramble option should be an easy to use UI.
The app will be used in a psychological experimentation whereby the scrambled images will be compared and the visual stimuli stimulated by the patients will than be monitored. The above designed UI should have an easy to use interface for non technical personnel to be easily able to use.
This app will have an extensive use for experimental studies to understand some sick patients and we are looking for someone who has extensive knowledge on matlab coding and is able to develop this software in quick time but also have flexibility in making some changes as the requirements of the project deem fit. We are also looking for someone to be able to deliver this project in the space of next two weeks as the UI developed is needed for the clinical studies to be done quickly.

I had a program written in VB that is based on a paper written by Barkan.
The subject is Engine Valve Train dynamics.
The project made some progress but still has some bugs in it.
I think there may be some problems wit conversion of units or something wrong with the computation because the program is capable of producing realistic looking results but only if unreasonable inputs are used.
There are also some problems with certain combinations of inputs causing arrays to be exceeded.

We are looking for design of a circuit which will return a value between 0 and 5v DC which corresponds to the resistance of liquid(milk). The circuit has source voltage of 5vDC and can be designed to output a PWM signal if needed.
The probes are stainless steel spaced 1cm apart and will be used in apparatus to measure the milk flow coming from cows on dairy facilities. For this reason several electrical characteristics must be taken into account. Cows are very sensitive to stray current so research will need to be conducted to ensure that the circuit measuring the flow of milk will not produce voltage or current that could harm the cow.
We would like the components to be simple and affordable as it will effect the base cost of the unit we are developing. Schematics will need to be provided as well as a description of how the circuit will work.
In summary:
a. Measure conductivity(resistance) of milk
b. Do so without harm to the animal
c. Circuit will return a value between 0-5vDC
– This range will correspond to a resistance reading between 0 and 5k ohms
d. Source voltage on circuit cannot exceed 5vDC
– We can provide a PWM signal if needed
e. Design needs to be simple and affordable
f. Probes on metering device is 1cm apart and stainless steel
g. Voltage used to measure cannot be DC as this will corrode the probes in liquid
e. Schematics and description of operation must be submitted
f. We are already using a microcontroller which will read the input of the circuit provided.
